SCHOOL SITE EEFs
In 1987, Encinitas residents came to the conclusion that funding from the State of California and local property taxes were inadequate support for our children's education programs. EEF was formed to bridge the gap between those public sources of funding and the private sector (including private/personal donations). Each of the nine schools in the Encinitas Union School District has the ability to sponsor EEF fundraising events to benefit their individual school. Together with the guidance from individual School Site Councils at each school, goals are identified and the school can plan fundraisers with the support of the entire EEF team and constituency.
District level activities fund mid- to long-term programs in all nine schools in the district. In contrast, PTA chapters typically fund specific positions on a short term or annual basis. Through each school's EEF representative, volunteers are the catalyst for school fundraisers and assist with EEF district & community events. Annual fundraising events often are the sole source of financial support for programs such as visual and performing arts, technology, and special projects (teaching gardens, field trips, etc.).
Fundraising opportunities also include the Restaurant Nights program. Local eating establishments donate a percentage of sales or fixed amount back to the school in exchange for their patronage on a certain night. Restaurant Nights are fun evenings for our kids to spend time outside school with friends, teachers, supporters, and staff while supporting local business and EEF.
Below is a brief outline of what the nine schools in the District are doing this year to support and enrich the children of our District:
