Supporting the children of the Encinitas Union School District

NATIVE AMERICAN FLUTES PROGRAM

Realizing the need for additional Visual and Performing Arts programming for the children of the
Encinitas Union School District, EEF was able to provide every third grade student (over 550 children!) the opportunity to receive Music and American History instruction in an exciting and interactive way through the Native American Flute Program.

Funding for this program was realized through our generous Family Partners, Legoland Community Day and the Fall Carnival. The 3rd Grade students pictured here were invited to showcase this program at the EUSD Board of Supervisors meeting.

The Native American Flute Program, a standard's based program enables children to explore the culture, customs, folklore, legends and storytelling of the Native American people with a focus on how the flute was used in the American Indian civilization.  Each child receives a flute and learns how and why they were made, and the history of their use.  They decorate their flute with traditional Native American designs, and learn to produce sounds that are in the tradition of the American Indian.  Children keep their decorated flutes to take home at the end of the course.
